Former UNLV NCAA Champ Ryan Moore Added to Team USA

Ryan Moore was an All-American at UNLV and authored the best year in amateur golf when he won the 2004 U.S. Amateur, NCAA title and a host of other top amateur tournaments. The following year he played in The Masters at Augusta as an amateur before turning professional following his senior season.

Now Moore has been made the final Captain’s pick by Davis Love III and joins the 2016 Team USA 12-man roster for the Ryder Cup to be played at Hazeltine Sept. 30 – Oct 2.

Moore took Rory McIlroy to four-playoff holes in the Tour Championship before Rory knocked in a birdie putt to win. The finish, combined with a torrid stretch of golf for Moore which includes a win at the John Deere Classic earlier this year, was enough for Love to make him the pick. Moore joins Chad Campbell and Chris Riley as former Rebels to play for Team USA.

“It’s awesome,” said UNLV Head Coach Dwaine Knight. “He was such a tremendous player for us and had the best amateur year ever in 2004. He has been incredible and this year might be his best year, especially the last seven weeks.

“He is a very worthy pick and is one of the best match play players I have ever seen. In 2004, he was down in many of his matches and showed his tenacity by coming back and winning each one. He is a special player. He has the heart of a champion and Davis Love III made a great choice. I think people will be surprised by his competitiveness and he will add a lot to the team. We are thrilled and congratulate him.”
