Weather Ends NCAA Day One Early – Follow Twitter for Video

Sugar Grove, Illinois — UPDATED 5/27 – Rebels take lead after two rounds. Well, the UNLV men’s golf team isn’t leading the 2017 NCAA Golf Championships after day one, but the good news is the Rebels stand at 3-under and in a tie for fifth place and due to inclement weather and darkness, the team still has a lot of golf left in round one to make up ground on the clubhouse leaders, Vanderbilt, which as a team is 8-under with some golf left as well. UNLV is making its 20th appearance in the NCAA Golf Championships in the last 29 years. LIVE SCORING.

“We played 11-13 holes and play is scheduled to resume at 6:30 am on the second day,” UNLV assistant coach Philip Rowe said from the Rich Harvest Farms course. “The team will be very pleased with how they’ve started but there is a lot of golf left to be played.”

A great way to keep up with the action is to follow the team’s twitter at @unlvgolf, where a lot of video is posted of shots throughout the event. Access to the Twitter page is also available via the home of this official Rebel Golf website.

The Rebels came into the NCAAs on a hot streak, having won the Mountain West Conference and also the NCAA Regional where they competed. Rebel head coach Dwaine Knight told the Las Vegas Review Journal that he was please with how the team was playing as they teed it up in the first round of the year’s most important tournament.

“I think it helps a lot if you’ve been playing well,” Knight told writer Mark Anderson. “Our team’s had a really solid year. We’ve been competing for a lot of tournaments this year. We’ve got three wins and a whole bunch of third and second places (six). That means you’re very competitive for the tournament.

“Our top three are about as good as any in the country, and they’ve been really solid,” Knight said. “But (players) four and five are going to have to contribute, and hopefully we’ll get some help out of them. If we do, I think we have a really good chance to have a big week.”
